The Dentist's Role in Airway-Oriented Care According to the ADA, dentists are uniquely qualified to provide oral appliance therapy (OAT) and other airway-related interventions. For children, early recognition and treatment are key to preventing the progression of SRBD.
Steps Pediatric Dentists Can Take:
1) Screen for Risk Factors
Evaluate for symptoms like mouth breathing, retrognathia, and sleep disturbances.
2) Refer When Indicated
Collaborate with physicians or sleep specialists for comprehensive care.
3) Educate Families
Help parents understand the importance of early intervention in preventing long-term health issues.
4) Provide Interventions
Use airway-focused appliances to promote proper growth and development.
